If you’ve ever been to a southern wedding, especially one that’s bicultural (Greek & Scottish) then you know that two things are very important…food and alcohol. As Ed and I began plans for the wedding receptions, we both eagerly decided we wanted to have barbeque served. As always, we decided to play to our strengths in the planning, and as such, I’ve taken on the role of food sleuth. What you might not know, is that by some, I might be considered a barbeque aficionado, as I have eaten from practically all barbeque joints in a 20-mile radius. From the get-go we realized a small crisis, that our vegan gal pal, Elena Caicedo helped us out with- what do we feed our wonderful vegans? She provided us with some amazing information…barbeque jackfruit! When it come to the subject of yummy barbecue…it’s what the vegans do! With that crisis averted, I created and implemented a two-step plan that was sure to make my efforts uber successful.
Step 1: Start with a quick list of barbecue restaurants in the area. Check!
List of Barbecue Restaurants:
- Sweet P’s Barbeque & Downtown Dive
- Buddy’s Barbeque
- Archer’s Barbeque
- Full-Service Barbeque
- Love ‘that” Barbeque
- M&M Barbeque
- Clanton’s Barbeque
- Dickey’s Pit Barbeque
- Famous Dave’s
- Calhoun’s
- Dead End Barbeque
(With just a little interweb research, I was quickly able to eliminate M&M, Clanton’s, Love “that” BBQ and, Full-Service, because their primary food options and specialties didn’t match our vision for the menu. No jackfruit!!!
Step 2: Call on my best man, Jordan Brown, and his wonderful girlfriend, Grace Bryant, to help us eat our way through Knoxville’s barbeques scene. Check!
With my elaborate plan created, we made arrangements to begin implementation as soon as possible.
