Our adventure into the culinary goodness, that is barbeque, began on a Thursday evening with a drive downtown to Sweet P’s Barbeque and Downtown Dive located at 410 W Jackson Avenue in Knoxville. The four of us, clad in our facemasks, walk into the restaurant and stand, as instructed on the red X’s on the floor as we read the menu, in a kind of weird socially distance manner. We all made a conscience decision to select very disparate plate options and sample from each other to give us the best data in overall quality and taste. We sat at our table with nearly the entire menu… sides and all. We agreed the greens were “meh” at best, but the mac-n-cheese was excellent. The brisket was good, but the ribs were a bit… spare of flavor for our tastes if you’ll excuse the pun. Ultimately, we decided it was a good starting point, but there was a lot of room enough for improvement. Important to note: Sweet P’s did have jackfruit on the menu, and that was an important plus factor to us for our vegetarian and vegan guests.
